Prediction and prevention of nerve function impairment (NFI) is extremely important in the management of leprosy. Ron Schuring and colleagues study an adjusted prediction rule that predicts NFI more often and also makes it possible to assess NFI risk before the first nerve damage event occurs.

Ocular Sequelae of Congenital Toxoplasmosis in Brazil Compared with Europe

The authors compare children with congenital toxoplasmosis diagnosed at birth in Europe and Brazil, and find that Brazilian children had a five times higher risk than European children of developing eye lesions and their lesions were larger, more numerous, and more likely to affect the part of the retina responsible for central vision.
